Pets need blessing too

Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven holds a Blessing of the Animals this Sunday, Oct. 2, after each of the three morning services. All are welcome to attend and no beloved pet is too small, too large, too mischievous, or too unusual. Service times are 8, 9:15, and 10:30 am. The 9:15 service is especially geared to children, but all are welcome. The practice honors St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment, whose feast day is Oct. 4.

Everyone and every pet is invited; you need not be a church member to take part in this joyful event.

For information, call 508-693-0332.

Hummingbird Healing offered

Foster Perry and Kristos Tsompanelis, teachers of Hummingbird Healing, will offer a shamanic healing workshop this weekend. Hummingbird Healing, according to a press release, is spiritually-focused and enables participants to release fear, heal wounds, gain new clarity and insight, and realign with the true nature of one's soul and life path.

A talk, "Golden Hummingbird Therapy and the Wisdom of the Kabbalah," takes place Friday, Sept. 30, 7 to 10 pm. The Golden Hummingbird Healing Intensive is offered Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1 and 2, 10 am until 10 pm. All events are held at the Wakeman Center, Vineyard Haven. Admission is $40 for the evening lecture, $350 for the entire workshop. For information and registration, call Elaine Allen, Golden Lotus Healing Arts, 508-693-3210.

Counting more than trees

Pete Costas from Vineyard Gardens is offering fall workshops on accounting for landscapers. His basic class, Wednesday, Oct. 5, will focus on the benefits of getting organized, what records to keep, and accounting software. This class will be free.

On Wednesday, Oct. 12, 19, and 26, Mr. Costas will begin an in-depth series on Quickbooks Pro. The classes will cover: setting up charts for accounts, vendors, and sales, tracking sales and expenses, and creating financial reports. The series will cost $25. All the classes are held at Polly Hill Arboretum.
